Mr Stranks has been actively involved in Hip Replacement Research throughout his career.  He has published and presented on Foot Pump and DVT Prophylaxis, Rapid Recovery and Metal on Metal Hip Replacement.

Since 2004 he has been a founding and key member of the nationally recognised Patient Education programme run by the Orthopaedic Surgery team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which aims to significantly reduce patient recovery time following Hip or Knee Surgery.

In 2006 the team were the prime movers behind the Rapid Recovery Hip Replacement DVD which was commended in the Health Outcomes section of the prestigious Independent Healthcare Awards in 2009.

In 2010 a dedicated website, www.hipandknee.tv was launched and the programme was expanded to include four key Knee procedures.

In 2013 the Hip and Knee TV project was fully expanded onto YouTube where to date the team’s patient education videos have been watched by more than 653,000 people from over 200 countries.
